International Women's day

On the 8th of March every year we celebrate the international women's day all over the world, and here in Dawei they had made a big gathering of different organizations for this day. I wrote earlier that my friend Yellow is a political activist here in Burma (she also recently taught me that the people still want their country to be called Burma, not Myanmar like the military party is saying, so I will write Burma), she is fighting for the human rights, women's rights and the people's right to keep their land that is now being confiscated all around Dawei because of the DSEZ project (will write more about that in next post). Both her father and older sister have served time in prison for being political activist and fighting for their rights and the police have made a lot of visits to their home because of their involvment! She has taught me so much about the problems here in Burma and what struggle these people are constantly fighting against their own government.

So this day was a gathering to inform and talk about the rights of women in the society and to inspire more people to get involved! There were a woman from a parliament, a known buisness woman and more who held speeches the whole day (Yellow whispered and translated the Burmese they were speaking all day, bless!)

Everybody who attended was asked to sign the paper!

Amazing Yellow, not only does she always make sure I get vegetarian meals but she also talk about how inspired she and her family are by not eating animals at all :)

I spoke a bit with Kyi Kyi (the buisness woman) before it all started since she spoke English, and when she were on stage she spontanously called me up on stage to introduce myself and speak a bit about my thoughts of women rights while she translated for me, haha I was so nervous!
