Sthlm → Yangon
Min Gā Lar Ba! I'm finally here, in Myanmar (Burma)! Right now I'm sitting in the hostel reception, it's 10 PM and I just got back from a long and amazing first day here in Yangon! Since I didn't bring a computer on my own I don't have a Swedish keyboard, so I decided to only write in English while I'm here (sorry mormor och morfar!!). I thought I could use the chance to write a bit now when the hostel offers a computer that I can use for free, so I will make a few posts now and time them so they will appear in the next few days! Anyway, HELLO! After a 40 hour long journey with four different flights and some delays, I am finally here! The feeling when I arrived here and stepped out of the airport with my backpacks was undescribable, I almost started crying out of happiness - when the heat hit my face, the smells, the noises and all the other surroundings... Now it finally begins, I thought to myself.. My own Myanmar adventure! The country with a history that goes so far way back but still so few of us really know anything about it... For example, the country changed its name back to Myanmar from Burma (the British changed the country name to Burma during colonial time) officially in 1989, and still we all call it Burma?
I will write more about the history of Myanmar bit by bit as I go on my trip, I need a bit more information and experiences before I want to share my knowledge :) Anyway, I've spent my first two days here with walking A LOT to explore Myanmar's former capital, speaking to the locals, asking a lot of questions and probably gained years in life from all the smiles they've given me! I have truly never experienced a culture this kind - everywhere on the street people are smiling, every person who has given me a ride, had me as a guest at a restaurant or just helped me find a street have been so social, helpful and happy. And in difference to the love of my life, India, Myanmar are not dependent on tourism in the same way at all, which makes them look at foreigners in a different way - instead of seeking money they are only seeking a friend!
Some random photos from my long journey from Sweden to here!
Found some vegan snacks on the way, happy girl!
