Shwedagon Pagoda

This remarkable place is one of the most important sites within Buddhism - the 99 metre high pagoda are covered in golden leaf, diamonds and such and is believed to enshrine eight hairs of the Gautama Buddha as well as relics of three former Buddhas. Ever since I heard about this place I've been wanting to go, and I also heard that the most beautiful time to go is around sunset, so I visited on the sunset on my first day here!

When I arrived I took of my shoes and slowly walked in to this magical place - there were obivously many tourists there but not so much that it was bothering me, people were also meditating and praying, doing Karma Yoga in a way of cleaning the site. It is said that this was first built by the Mon people some time between the 6th and the 10th centuries but has been rebuilt numerous of times because of earthquakes, It was a truly beautiful experience to go here!
